Mutually Awkward

catch ups, part 2.

Following Shanghai, I finally got back on track to exploring Hong Kong and finally doing some touristy stuff. The coolest thing yet was seeing the Big Buddha with Jeane. It was a perfect day to go as it was a foggy one, making the Buddha look quite mysterious. But the way to the Buddha itself was just as fantastic. To get there, we had to ride cable cars through the giant hills of Lantau Island to reach Ngong Ping Village, a tourist area built to resemble an old village that was filled with several restaurants and gift shops.

Below the Giant Buddha was Po Lin Monastery,  a Buddhist monastery. Though the large temple houses were awesome, what really caught my eye were the random dogs everywhere in sight. EVERYWHERE.

my new friend.

So I went to this amusement park in Hong Kong this past weekend called Ocean Park. I of course forgot my camera, but I would say it was pretty much a hybrid park, mixing some bits of Disneyland, Six Flags, and Sea World together along with throwing in Long Beach’s Aquarium of the Pacific for good measure.

There were roller-coasters, pandas, weird fish, a huge aquarium with sharks and more weird fish, pandas, cable cars that took people to the other side of the park (and over some of the huge mountain terrain  of Hong Kong Island), pandas, a Fantasmic-like light and firework show at the end of the night, and did I mention the pandas? This includes a panda with napkin manners and some awesome red pandas. I even took a fluffy one home at the end of the night.

Unfortunately, Herbert isn’t as lively as the other red pandas I saw at Ocean Park.
